Thomas Shooman, LMHC
I often work with clients dealing with anxiety, grief, obsessive-compulsive symptoms, feelings of dissatisfaction, life transitions, and other issues that may require new ways of approaching themselves, others, and the world in which they live.
I draw from various modalities and have familiarized myself with the theory and practice of such approaches as psychodynamic and depth-oriented psychotherapy, cognitive-behavioral therapies (including ACT, ERP, and I-CBT) and grief counseling. Depending on your needs, our work together may be primarily depth and insight oriented, behavioral and skill based, or focused on unhelpful thoughts and beliefs that contribute to difficulties. There is no one-size-fits-all therapy, and I value clients' unique insights into the workings of their minds.
In addition to symptom reduction and improved functioning, I try to aid clients in finding paths and opportunities in their lives that offer meaning and enrichment. In other words, the goal is not the restoration of a previous status quo but the creation and discovery of a new and fruitful way forward.
